A legacy in liquefied gas safety:

The Whessoe gauges and valves are manufactured and distributed by Svanehøj

For decades, the name Whessoe has been associated with highly accurate instrumentation and safety systems in liquefied gas transportation and storage systems. Today, the excellence in gauges and valves, that Whessoe is known for, continues to thrive under the Svanehøj banner.

Since acquiring Wärtsilä Tank Control Systems in 2021 and establishing Svanehøj Tank Control Systems as a subsidiary, we have been manufacturing and distributing Whessoe gauges and valves from our location in Calais, France. Today, Svanehøj remains the sole manufacturer and authorized distributor of the Whessoe LTD gauge and spare parts. By combining Whessoe's legacy in LNG and LPG storage safety with Svanehøj's vision and expertise in handling mission-critical liquids, we continuously enhance our contribution to the safety of LNG, cryogenic, and refrigerated storage. Both onshore and offshore.

“Just like our renowned Svanehøj fuel and cargo pumps, the Whessoe gauges and valves are acknowledged for their high quality and reliability. Looking towards the future, we are committed to building the next generation of solutions that will utilize future fuels, such as ammonia and hydrogen. We will develop and upgrade our technology to handle the new energy sources, ensuring that our solutions remain at the forefront of the industry, applying the same methods and innovative approaches from that of Whessoe that made the brand a pioneer in LNG in the first place”, says Quentin Tredez, R&D & Engineering Manager from Svanehøj.

Established in Calais in 1961

Our current facility in Calais, France, was originally established by Whessoe in 1961 and became instrumental in developing instrumentation and safety equipment for gas carriers and storage tanks. The Whessoe instrumentation branch also introduced the industry’s first level, temperature, and density (LTD) gauge, specifically designed for floating storage.

Following multiple ownerships changes, the Whessoe instrumentation branch in Calais became part of Wärtsilä in 2006 and continued operations as Wärtsilä Tank Control Systems. In 2021, the brand’s journey took another turn when Svanehøj acquired Wärtsilä Tank Control Systems. This acquisition marked a significant step in our ambition of becoming a global leader in the manufacturing and servicing of equipment for mission-critical liquids, positioning Svanehøj as the obvious service partner for the hundreds of LNG carriers equipped with Whessoe metering systems.
