Greener commuting: Svanehøj team up with JOOLL to offer employee bikes
In Svanehøj, the green transition is not only about providing innovation and technology for the maritime industry. We also want to support our employees in making healthier and more climate-friendly choices in their everyday lives.
Recently, Svanehøj signed an agreement with the bike leasing company JOOLL to offer premium bikes to our employees for home-to-work commuting.
Why? Because choosing to commute by bike from home to work impacts personal health and the environment in a positive way. It is also beneficial for our business in Svanehøj, as biking on a regular basis leads to more productive workdays and fewer sick days. And finally, it is a really nice benefit for our employees.
People are the foundation and driver of change
Working with JOOLL aligns with the broader focus of our ESG strategy "Engage to Sustain", which is based on the belief that people in every part of Svanehøj are the foundation and driver of change.
In 2022 and 2023, we installed ten charging points for electric cars at our headquarters and learned that investing in greener commuting options between home and work helps build employee involvement and commitment to our ESG targets.
Adding to our greener commuting opportunities, JOOLL presented a straightforward concept: The employer covers a monthly charge for the bicycle, which includes insurance and maintenance costs. Meanwhile, the employee is taxed solely based on the value of this fee.
ESG Idea Tracker fosters green initiatives
At Svanehøj, an ESG ambassador corps of seven colleagues is responsible for gathering ideas with the potential to help us reach our ESG targets. To facilitate this process, we have implemented a smartphone app – the "ESG Idea Tracker" – to collect ideas and insights from across the organization.
The partnership with JOOLL originates from this initiative and serves as a prime example of how inputs submitted through the ESG Idea Tracker can evolve into actual ESG initiatives.
More than 20 of our employees have already ordered a JOOLL employee bike, among those our Finance Director Ole Styrbaek (in the picture), and we definitely anticipate more colleagues will follow suit in the near future.
